CHAPTER 2

Your Relationship with Money: Invest with Your Heart and Mind

TAKE ACTION

Step 1. Explore your money stories

If you haven’t already, take the Archetype Quiz to learn more about your financial archetypes. Or download the Meaning of Money Toolkit for another way to explore how you think about money.

Financial Archetype Quiz. This 5-minute quiz (sponsored by Abacus Wealth Partners, a values-aligned financial advisory firm) will identify your dominant financial archetypes and provide a 2-page analysis of each type. Your email is required to receive the results.

Meaning of Money Toolkit. This document provides questionnaires and exercises to help you dig more deeply into your beliefs and the stories you tell yourself. Use it solo, or share it with friends.

Step 2. Bring clarity to your values

Grab a pen and paper and find a quiet corner. Then, being as thorough as you can, answer the following question: What changes would you like to see in the world over the next 20 years? Think about your community, the country, the economy, the environment, or any other area that you feel strongly about.

Sustainable Development Goals Worksheet. Once you have answered the question above, download this worksheet, which contains all the SDGs. Mark the three to five values that resonate the most with you. Then, put your list away. Look at it again in a few days. Has anything changed?

Step 3. Engage with others

Money & Values Conversation Starter. Use this set of questions and prompts to start a conversation with a few female friends. You could ask what early childhood messages they received about money and how those messages might still be influencing them. You could also discuss the SDGs and ways to align investments with personal values.
